Urban Tree Canopy Assessment

Miami-Dade Urban Tree Canopy

Conducted by the University of Florida and Florida International University, the assessment focuses on the environmental and socioeconomic impacts from the urban tree canopy (UTC) within the Urban Development Boundary of Miami-Dade County, as defined by the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The area, excluding intracoastal water areas, encompasses approximately 1150 km2, or 444 mi2.

Completed in Summer 2016, the Urban Tree Canopy was sponsored through a partnership with Neat Streets Miami and American Forests Community ReLeaf Initiative, primarily funded by Bank of America and the U.S. Forest Service.
